Not only can boxed cushions be stand-alone projects for seating, they are also important components of fully upholstered furniture. In this course, Cynthia Bleskachek provides step-by-step instruction for a boxed cushion with welt, the foundational skill that every upholsterer needs. Attention is given to fabric direction, making single welt cord, and using silk film to stuff the foam insert. Cynthia also shares important guidance for bench cushions and client communication.

Cynthia will reference methods learned in the prerequisite course, BOXED CUSHION WITH PLAIN SEAMS, which should be completed prior to this course.

Cynthia Bleskachek first discovered upholstery as a child, tearing back furniture in her mom’s home-based business. In 2001, she began a twenty year career, honing her skills and traveling the country to work and teach. In 2016, she created The Funky Little Chair to provide high quality training through in-person, online, and blended programming. Cynthia is currently applying her knowledge and experience as a training specialist for Andersen Windows in Bayport Minnesota. She continues to support upholstery students as an instructor through The Workroom Channel's anytime-access programming. Cynthia deeply believes in the modern relevance of this skilled trade, particularly as a critical component in reducing furniture waste. She will always be a vocal advocate for upholstery education, and for the trade community that continues to do this important work.
